I looked the man [Putin] in the eye. I found him to be very straightforward and trustworthy. We had a very good dialogue. I was able to get a sense of his soul. — George W. Bush, making another in many bad judgment calls, this time responding to the question ‘Can we trust Russia?’ and ex-KGB, war-mongering, shit-stirring mega-propagandist Vladmir Putin
American domestic terrorists with unfettered access to guns are far more dangerous than the foreign terrorists the right wing always fearmongers. But you’re not allowed to say that.
The GOP Responses: where SOTU becomes STFU. — John Fugelsang
One of the traditional methods of imposing statism or socialism has been by way of medicine….If you don’t do this, one of these days you and I are going to spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was like in American when men were free. —
Ronald Reagan’s 1961 taped anti-Medicare message, “Ronald Reagan Speaks Out Against Socialized Medicine” paid for by AMA and AMPAC.
The fearmongers were wrong then about Medicare and they’re wrong today about Americans “suffering” at the hands of Obamacare.
Because the American Indian Counsel has requested that the NFL disassociate itself from Indian Names, the Washington Redskins have announced that they will change their name to the Washington Foreskins, in honor of all the dicks in Washington DC, effective immediately.
While right wing media is today touting the ludicrous meme that the President forced them to shut down the government (I guess they’re as stupid as their teabagger constituency), let’s not forget the GOP was the only folks who were happy and excited about the shutdown, who conspired to plot it six months ago, and who voted against reopening the government and averting a credit default.
Congress currently has a 10% approval rating, apparently that is lower than the approval rating of colonoscopies. Which actually makes sense because the more you think about it, both Congress and colonoscopies deal with assholes, but the American public can at least acknowledge that colonoscopies serve a practical function. Also, colonoscopies exist to make assholes better; Congress just seems to make them worse. — John Oliver, on The Bugle podcast
Can we all agree now you don’t elect morons who hate government to run it?
Obama on shutdown -
Replying to Stutzman’s question about what Republicans “get” for ending the three-day shutdown, Obama said,
“What you get is our intelligence professionals being back on the job. What you get is our medical researchers back on the job. What you get are little kids back in the Head Start. What you get are our national parks and monuments open again. What you get is the economy not stalling, but continuing to grow. What you get are workers continuing to be hired. That’s what you get.”
You have already gotten the opportunity to serve the American people….if you’re being disrespected it’s because of that attitude that you’ve got that you deserve to get something for doing your job! — President Obama, today, addressing members of the GOP, like Rep. Martin Stutzman (R-IN), who said they “wouldn’t be disrespected” and had to “get something out of” the shutdown. GOBAMA!

Love this guy’s twitter feed!
While the teabaggers are falling all over themselves for photo ops and sound bites with the WWII veterans at their war memorial in DC, I wish one of those old guys would ask them: “Why do you care more about us being on a pleasure trip to DC than needy kids losing their Head Start program or juvenile cancer research on hiatus?”
Rep. Todd Rokita:
I guess you all are celebrating shutting down the federal government because you all couldn’t lie to a win in the last election. Yeah, I know you Republicans all have more seats in the House. But if I were you, I would be embarrassed to know that my party lost congressionally nationwide by 1.7 million votes and yet you try to act like you all have a mission to do something other than govern. Gerrymandering is the worst way to win an election. But you all only care about power by any means necessary so you all will act like you all can’t see that a majority of Americans reject your policies. Reminds me of the movie “Remember the Titans.” They couldn’t win against diversity on the football field so some powerbrokers had to run to the officials to try to get a victory for the non-diverse team. Remember, one of the coaches saw what was happening and stood up against those officials whom he personally knew and challenged them to do the right thing and call the game fair. That coach didn’t care about being called a name. He stood up for what was right. And as they say, the rest was history. And as many have said before, cheaters never win. By-the-way, who would want to win a game, an election or a contest by rigging the system? Republicons…that’s who.
So as you prepare to send your precious children off to school today, I had to remind my not so precious daughter last night that because of this government shut down, my VA determination has just got pushed back maybe several more months. That means that my promise to finally give her a much deserved birthday party will once again have to wait as a majority of the House of Representatives whom shut down the government haven’t made the sacrifices that she and her parents have made. We only make the pay we’re scheduled to make according to the military pay scale, and we’re not supported by some billionaire cause. Heck, she’s only 10 soon to be 11-years-old and she has endured both her parents away from her while we were training stateside and serving in a combat zone in Iraq for a combined 30 months. Have your children gone through such at an early age, Congressman? Do they know how it feels to wonder if mommy or daddy is going to die in Iraq? She worried about such and even asked those questions to both of her parents, because we were both over there serving. Yeah…I know, you don’t care, Congressman…what else is new?
So to the hell with Veterans. Let’s shut the government down because we Republicans didn’t get our way and we know that we don’t have to worry about losing our seats because we’ve rigged the system and our sugar-daddies will keep our pockets phat for trying to make this President look weak. I guess your precious kids don’t have to worry about lunch money, or food being on the table, or basic living essentials such as water, sewer, electric, and personal hygiene items. Mine does. And so do the other Veterans and federal workers who don’t have sugar-daddies to bail us out. And guess what, we don’t want them doing that because that would be considered selling your soul for a few pieces of silver.
Congressman Rokita, I hope that Veteran whom you did a photo op with several weeks ago has some money set aside for this shutdown. Man, you had your smiling photo op…sent it out on social media…then you turned around and stabbed Veterans in the back - including the one you took the picture with - by voting the way you did to shut down the government. That’s what I called being a chicken hawk. By law, you are entitled to your $174K salary. But since I don’t agree with it, maybe I can petition the courts that even though it’s law that you don’t continue to keep getting paid while others suffer, just because I don’t like that law. Yeah, maybe that’s what we should do.
So as you collect your checks from the taxpayers in your district, that you rightfully won through gerrymandering, you’ll also pick up a phat check from some Heritage foundation and take your family out for dinner…a family trip…a nice birthday party…you know, all the things you can do with blood money. Enjoy it because you have really earned it. And for those in your safe gerrymandered district, I hope they are happy now.
Obviously, those in your district also don’t care about the Veterans who need the VA opened. Some Veterans have been waiting several years to have treatment for injuries suffered while in a combat zone, while on active duty. People who only wanted to serve this great Country of ours will now have to wait even longer…including me. So when I have to apply for food stamps, don’t single me out as being lazy…I’m injured. When I need assistance paying my mortgage, don’t tell me to get a job…I’m injured from serving my country. When I ask you for a loan to pay for living essential items don’t send me away with nothing because you decided to follow the money and not be concerned about my family and my not-so precious child by voting with those crazy, never served in the military, money-hungry tea party nuts. Do you know of any churches that can help us out during this shutdown? I didn’t think so. But what needs to happen is for someone to run against you because you don’t have any conviction to do the right thing…i.e., like that coach. You’re afraid to have a real fight for voters…but your super safe red seat might be in for a change as diversity is really hitting a lot of the suburban areas in your gerrymandered district. Still, party alliance is all that matters to you. And anyone on your side can vote that way. Nothing hard about voting that way when it comes to being a Republicon. But being a good public servant puts all Americans first for the good of the USA.
In closing, I thank you for allowing my VA determination to be stalled while you all celebrate your big win, while hurting this Country (again). Your masters are very proud. But let me get this straight…a majority of the American people voted for the POTUS not once but twice. The ACA billed passed both houses of Congress and it was signed by the POTUS and became law. The last federal election was about repeal and replace. Not only did the POTUS win big electorally and nationwide, but your side lost seats in both houses. And the ACA is already funded and functioning and can’t be stopped by this charade. And now, you all say that the American people don’t like “Obamacare.” Now what the media should be asking you is what do you all mean by the phrase “the American People?” I can understand you all saying “our constituents” or “47 percent of the American people don’t like Obamacare.” But, a majority of “the American people” spoke loudly and voted for Democrats at the last federal election. That same majority has not changed one iota. So, I’m beginning to think that this phrase “the American People” as your side loves to say (even though no majority went your way) is just code for White Republican voters only. Am I on to something?
